My name is Lesley Smitheringale and I am from a little village in Scotland, called Bishopbriggs. I gained a BA with Honours in design, specialising in Printed Textiles at Glasgow School of Art and then trained to be an art teacher.

After doing a teacher exchange I emigrated to Australia in 1992 and now call Australia home. You can see a picture of me above shortly before I emigrated, on a snowy December day in Bishopbriggs. We had a white Christmas that year. I live in the Redlands area with my husband and ragdoll cat, Merlo.

After a total of 22 years of teaching in High Schools I took the plunge and launched my own business. Oz Wildlife Studio has been successfully running since 2010 and provides extra-curricular art classes to children ages 5 - 17 and an online gift shop featuring nature inspired products, fine art and photographic prints.

I launched Oz Wildlife Studio for 3 reasons:-

  • my passion for the creative process and subsequent training in the visual arts
  • to improve on the cheap and tacky gifts I kept seeing in the marketplace which were mass produced [typically in China] for visitors to Australia
  • my love of Australian flora and fauna
I make everything myself in my home studio and am proud to say "Hand-Made in Australia".
